The 2008 Western Division AFS Annual Meeting will be hosted by the Oregon Chapter AFS, May 4-9, 2008, in Portland, Oregon. The Western AFS Annual Meeting also will serve as the Oregon Chapter's Annual Meeting. Attached is a 1st Call for Papers and Symposia. Paper and poster abstracts must be electronically submitted by February 22, 2008. Montana Chapter of the American Fisheries Society Annual Meeting

“Warming to the Future: Preparing for the Potential Effects Of Climate Change on Montana’s Aquatic Resources”

February 12-15, 2008, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Billings, Montana

Members of the Montana Chapter of the American Fisheries Society: We are pleased to announce that the 41st Annual Meeting of the Montana Chapter will be held February 12-15, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Billings. The program will follow a typical schedule with a continuing education workshop held on the 12th and the general meeting opening on the 13th.

Members of the planning committee are currently soliciting ideas and suggestions for symposia and the continuing education course. If you have thoughts regarding speakers, technical sessions, or an education course please contact Carter Kruse (see information below).

Additional details regarding registration and a formal call for individual papers will be forthcoming in the soon to be released October issue of the Outlet, however now is a good time to begin considering what research or management information you will present at the meeting. We are especially looking for papers that parallel the meeting theme.

We encourage you set aside these dates and plan on attending our professional meeting, as well as consider presenting a paper to an audience of your peers.

North Pacific International Chapter Annual General Meeting

March 4th -6th, 2008 - Bellingham Washington


We invite you to Bellingham, WA March 4-6, 2008 as the North Pacific International Chapter (WA and BC) of the American Fisheries Society (AFS), with cooperation of the Sustainable Fisheries Foundation, convenes its 2008 Annual General Meeting at the Lakeway Inn in Bellingham, WA. Conveniently located for Canadian and Washington participants, the collection of plenary talks, symposia, contributed sessions, poster session, and social events will include diverse topics of freshwater and marine fishery and aquatic science while providing rewarding networking opportunities. Our selected theme will focus on Puget Sound, Georgia Strait, and watersheds that flow into those basins. Society members, students, natural resource agencies managers and scientists, consulting professionals, and citizens can use this convenient venue to advance their professional knowledge and to keep current on emerging findings and issues..

Stream Restoration Workshop

May 8th & 9th, 2008 - Held at the Western Division AFS meeting in Portland, Oregon

Coordinators: Bianca Streif & Janine Castro – U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

Western Division & Oregon Chapter American Fisheries Society Present a training workshop featuring prominent scientists and practitioners with aquatic restoration applications pertinent to western States, Mexico, and Canada.  The plenary format will cover current restoration practices set in a watershed context and aimed at restoring our native fish assemblages.  Topics include: foundations of physical and ecological river functions; data requirements for design and effectiveness monitoring; restoring channel complexity in wet, arid and urban stream systems; restoration of tidal areas; aquatic invasive species issues; and physical and biological implications associated with dams and their removal.  The practical aspects of working with private landowners, as well as project management and implementation will also be addressed.  Attendees will receive an electronic notebook of key restoration literature.

Speakers include: Dave Montgomery, Jason Dunham, Leslie Reid, Derek Booth, and many others.
