Student Representative election now open
The 30-day election period for 2018-19 Student Representative of the Western Division American Fisheries Society is now open. If you are an AFS member and currently enrolled as a student, please go here to cast your vote for one of the candidates for WDAFS Student Representative.
We are fortunate to have 3 excellent candidates running for the office of WDAFS Student Representative: Court Pegus (University of Alaska), Yangfan Zhang (University of British Columbia), and Britta Baechler (Portland State University). Please take the time to read their candidate statements and vote for one of them.
The WDAFS Student Representative is a voting member and active participant on the WDAFS Executive Committee, and therefore can effectively advocate on behalf of fisheries students and early career professionals. In addition to facilitating student involvement in AFS activities, the Student Representative helps plan the WDAFS annual meeting, participates on committees, and organizes a Student Colloquium in the fall of each year. The Student Representative communicates regularly with AFS student subunit officers, providing timely information on scholarship and travel grant opportunities, and other items of interest to AFS student members.
The election will run until June 18, and results will be announced soon afterwards. The new Student Representative will assume office at the conclusion of the AFS annual business meeting in August.
