2019 WDAFS Individual Awards
Deadline for nominations: April 1, 2019
Each year, the Western Division of the American Fisheries Society bestows awards on individuals who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to fisheries education, science, management, and conservation. All of us know people who are deserving of recognition. Please consider nominating a worthy individual for one of the 2018 WDAFS awards listed below.
Award of Excellence – This award recognizes sustained professional excellence; it is the most prestigious award offered by the Division. It is given annually to an AFS member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and exceptional competence in fishery resource applications through monumental works, new methodologies, or multiple successful contributions that benefit our resources and profession.
Award of Merit – This award is given to AFS member(s) who have made positive and regionally significant contributions to the Western Division, to our profession, and to fisheries resources.
Award of Special Recognition – WDAFS gives this award to an AFS member or non-member (or, alternatively, to an organization) whose actions have directly benefited the Western Division and its members.
Robert Borovicka Conservation Achievement Award – This award is presented to an AFS member or non-member who has significantly contributed to fisheries conservation within the geographic region of the Western Division.
Diversity & Inclusion Award – The WDAFS Diversity & Inclusion Committee presents this award to an AFS Member exhibiting strong evidence of service and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the fisheries profession. The award recipient will be reimbursed up to $750 (USD) for meeting registration and travel costs. Self- nominations will be accepted. Contributions of nominees belonging to all WDAFS membership categories (e.g., student, early career professionals, international) will be considered.
Instructions for Nominating Someone for a 2019 WDAFS Individual Award
To nominate an individual for one of the awards listed above (except the Diversity & Inclusion Award, see below), please write a one-page summary (note, Award of Excellence may exceed one page) of the contributions and accomplishments of the nominee noting specifically how they align with the award for which they are being nominated. Send your nominations to WDAFS Past President Brian Missildine at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than April 1, 2019.
