Western Native Fisheries Committee

Purpose: The Western Native Fishes Committee grew out of the 2002-2003 Western Native Fishes Special Committee’s Database with a mission to promote stewardship of native fishes within the Division boundaries through information-sharing (i.e., symposia, publications, databases) and professional development.

Mission: The vision of the Western Native Fishes Committee of the Western Division of AFS is to foster a network of fisheries scientists and managers with expertise and interest in the native fishes of Western North America to address emerging ecological and conservation concerns for these organisms and their habitats.  In particular, we support the completion and dissemination of sound science pertaining to these fishes. We recruit members from all career stages and employment backgrounds, and emphasize the engagement of students and young professionals to perpetuate these values.
