2027 Arizona – New Mexico Chapter and Western Division AFS Annual Meeting Call for Proposals – Symposia and Continuing Education/Training Sessions
Call for Proposals – Symposia and Continuing Education/Training Sessions
Deadline 11/29/2026
The Arizona – New Mexico Chapter and AFS Western Division are excited to host a joint annual meeting in Tucson, Arizona, from May 9 to 13, 2027. The theme of the meeting is “Change is Constant: Building Resilience in the West.” Fisheries management in the West is faced with constant change in the face of stressors like severe drought, shifting thermal regimes, changing precipitation patterns, and altered flow regimes. The threat of these stressors requires forward-looking science and innovative management strategies to maintain and expand our fisheries and build resilience to changing ecological conditions. How can we learn from recent management innovations to better prepare for an increasingly unpredictable future? What insights and innovative solutions will enable us to continue to sustain healthy fisheries for future generations?
The Tucson Program Committee invites proposals for symposia, and continuing education/training sessions that support the meeting theme or advance the fisheries profession. Submissions should include a descriptive title and an explanatory abstract of up to 300 words. Those with questions should contact Zach Beard (zbeard@azgfd.gov) and Brittany Jenewein (president-elect@wdafs.org).
Symposium Proposals
An organized symposium will contain a series of integrated presentations organized around a single topic or theme. These sessions provide a forum for focused discussions on new and emerging topics or innovative applications of established approaches. Although not required, symposia proposals are encouraged to address the meeting theme. Proposals should explain if sessions will include panel discussions, speed presentations, or other interactive aspects. Sessions can be half-day or full-day. Organizers planning a multi-day symposium should provide details under Special Needs or Accommodations.
Continuing Education and Training Session Proposals
Pre-conference continuing education and training sessions will be offered onsite as half-day or full-day sessions on May 9, 2027. Courses should be designed to offer in-depth professional development and training to students, professionals, or specific audiences.
